Anatomy Immersion - Feet + Inner Legs

What do the arches of the feet have to do with breathing?

How do poses like triangle and half moon affect the hips, pelvis, and lower back?

Join Magi for this day-long exploration of these questions and anatomy of aspects of the lower body, hips, and diaphragm.

This workshop will be an engaging mix of posture discussion and assessment, basic anatomy and function, injury and rehab ideas, and an opportunity to put it all into practice.

Great for curious students of all levels.

Honey Flow + LIVE MUSIC

The most delicious (and stealthily challenging) of Kula classes. A one hour serving of good ol’ Kula Flow, lathered with 35 minutes of yin + restorative with a REAL savasana. YUM. No one needs a little deep chillout more than NYC yogis, but most of us are too type A to take a true restorative class. So – this is the Kula solution. BONUS- the whole thing is accompanied by live music. Do this for yourself.

Subtle Body Immersion - The Koshas

A perhaps less known however incredibly interesting topic, this workshop on the koshas (sheaths) will de-mystify these layers and make them relevant and applicable to yoga practice as well as day-to-day life. Questions like “how do the thoughts in the mind affect our muscles and also our sense of bliss?” and “How do I observe my mind and take different action?” will be explored.

There will be time dedicated to physical practice, group discussion, and individual writing and meditation exercises. We will also cover how these sheaths can be used to better understand the whole being to cultivate balance and alignment. This weekend will be a safe space for self-inquiry and healing through insight. All are warmly welcomed. We will meet from 2-8PM on Saturday and Sunday. FRIDAY SADHANA - Begin Again

BEGIN AGAIN. This first workshop will be an exploration of beginnings; tadasana, the inhale, the first limb of Astanga yoga, and the opening of the new year. This workshop is specifically crafted to bring attention to starting points, so if there are patterns, habits, or situations you would like to begin anew, this evening is a place to initiate that. The practice and contemplation will be accompanied by crystal bowls and instruments.

Sadhana is a dedicated practice toward fulfillment of being. Join Magi for these Friday evening sessions wherein the physical focus will be used as a platform and bridge to examine the inner (mental/subtle) space. Each month will be a different focus. These evenings are workshop-style: there will be a concise asana (posture) practice to establish a physical platform, simple ceremony (including meditation, chanting, elements/directions work), and discussion/contemplation around the topic for the evening.

Exchange : $30. Registration on kula’s website.

Functional Anatomy - Get Your Legs Underneath You

In the broadest sense, this workshop will be about the legs, and how to apply stable and nuanced alignment in tadasana to form a solid foundation for every yoga posture. We will talk basic anatomical terminology, fascia (what it is and how it relates to yoga), relevant bones and muscles, and examine how the arches of the feet, knees, and pelvis can be interrelated to form a structure of good integrity. Expect to stand differently after this!

You will learn to feel this anatomy in your own body, observe it in other bodies, and how to talk about it with your students (or whoever will listen!). This material is particularly relevant if you struggle with balance and/or have ankle/knee/low back injury or tenderness. There will be a mix of practice (movement), lecture, discussion, and posture reading.

HELD AT : HUDSON YOGA PROJECT, HOBOKEN

DROP IN : $50

More Warrior, Less Worrier

This practice will focus on standing well through the lens of both outer (physical) body and inner (subtle) body. We’ll look specifically at the Virabhadra Asanas (warrior postures) and anatomically how the alignment of the legs can directly affect and support the pelvis and lower back. This is an excellent class if you sit a lot (literally or energetically) as it will enliven the legs and offer both physical and mental cues to release worry and cultivate stability, clarity, and purpose. Come exactly as you are and know you are welcome.

Held at JP Centre Yoga in Boston, MA. All information here

Friday Sadhana

By request, the topic of the evening will be anatomy through the lens of the chakras, specifically 1st (muladhara) and 2nd (swadisthana) chakras. We will look at both outer and inner (subtle) alignment. This evening will be both lecture style (I’m bringing my projector!!) and experiential with some simple movement and meditation/mindfulness practice. Whatever your experience with yoga asana, know you are enthusiastically invited to join us. Please dress comfortably and bring a notebook if desired.

After much deliberation, I am changing the exchange structure of these Friday sadhanas. They will now be a $15 drop in, cash or venmo. I still endeavor to make these evenings available regardless of your financial situation so if you would like to come but need to work out a different payment, please let me know and I am glad to work something out.

My aspiration of the evening is that it will provide a scaffolding of understanding and tools with which to start and apply this fundamental and paramount material. I hope to see you there!!! All are warmly welcomed.

Greener Pastures- Buoying the Space of the Heart

Join me for this 2-hour practice devoted to opening and strengthening the heart center. These are trying times and we must tap into the vast potential and well of support inherent in the anahata chakra. From the physical lens, we will explore spinal extension and how to backbend from a stable and pain-free base using props and clear instruction. There will be variations for accessibility and up-leveling. We’ll close with kriya and pranayama (action and breath-control) as well as a heart-centered meditation to enliven and occupy this space. Expect a blend of vinyasa movement and posture break-down with a sweet, long rest to integrate. All levels are warmly welcomed.

TheClass x Yoga

Join me and Jaycee Gossett for a synthesis of paths to study the space of the heart. TheClassbyTT is a cathartic movement practice- one that I dove in to frequently during some of the hardest moments of my life. To revisit it now, when the ground feels firm, is a beautiful mirror of where I've come. Move, breathe, jump, breathe, lengthen, breathe, sit.

I hope you'll join us. This will fill- sign up here

Friday Sadhana

Our monthly Friday sadhana will be this Friday September 29th from 6:30 - 8:30PM at the ‘Pathfinder Center’ (formerly element center) at 28 Warren Street. The topic for this session will be pranayama (breath practices) and meditation. It’s really sweet to end the month with quiet, reflection, and rest. If you haven’t been in a while, this is the one to come back to :).

We will come together and do a bit of discussion about breath anatomy- touching on the koshas- then we’ll do a pranayama practice followed by meditation. If you are newer to meditation or looking to establish a home practice, this will be good for you!! It builds on last month’s topic of ritual work.

You do not need a yoga mat but dress comfortably and if you have an eye pillow or head wrap you may want it!

These sessions are by-donation. Suggested is $20- if you have more, you’re helping someone else out, if you have less, you are taken care of. All are warmly welcomed. I truly hope you can come!

Friday Sadhana

This is a gathering where we come together for a couple hours of simple ceremony (including meditation, elements/directions work, dialogue) and a short practice of asana and pranayama (Forrest-inspired) that is related to and supports the theme for the evening. My intention is that this will be a chance to go in and use the maps to do work on the internal landscape AND connect and spend time with our community.

Email me if you'd like to come!
